Find the decision inside the document
A procedure contains several kinds of information: background, steps, choices, exceptions and reference detail. They do not all belong in a lesson. Choose one ordinary decision that regularly causes uncertainty. In our fictional meeting-room process, the decision is whether an overlapping booking can be confirmed—not whether the learner can recite every field in the booking sheet. Keep the authoritative procedure available beside the lesson.
Make the practice smaller than the process
Write a normal case and a plausible exception. Ask the learner to choose the next step and explain which detail changes the answer. A short explanation can then address the missing reasoning. Our proposed sequence is source, decision, example, practice, feedback. It is an editorial framework, not a validated training method or a guarantee that shorter content produces better learning.
Choose the delivery only after the task
An existing document and a brief conversation may be enough for an infrequent, simple task. Consider a mini-course authoring tool when repeatable interactive practice or a shareable sequence is genuinely missing. Consider a managed learning system when administration and required records dominate. Mini Course Generator is one documented authoring option; its feature list does not establish that your people will understand or apply the instruction.
Leave a maintenance trail
Assign a source version, lesson owner and review trigger before sharing. Link every practice answer to the rule that supports it. If the room-booking cut-off changes, the author should be able to locate the affected explanation, example and answer without rereading everything. Build the lesson brief next; do not upload private operating material into our tools or a merchant trial merely to explore the idea.
A useful handoff
Leave the author with a source version, one decision, a normal case, an exception and a review owner. If any of those is missing, the next useful action is to resolve it—not to generate more pages.
